How can I stop pop-up ads?
Pop-ups are annoying windows - quite often advertisements - that are automatically opened and can begin to fill your screen. Pop-up ads can be generated by normal web-browsing, and severe amounts of pop-up ads can indicate a spyware or adware problem. In either case, there are literally hundreds of free pop-up blockers available for download from the web. Windows XP SP2 automatically includes a pop-up blocker into the Internet Explorer web-browser. Google Toolbar is an extremely popular and successful option for all users. For even more alternatives, you could visit www.download.com and simply search for "pop-up blocker" and search through the results for a free version that has positive reviews.

How can I remove viruses/worms?

How can I check my email from work or from a different computer?
You can easily access your email from any computer in the world that has Internet access. Simply visit your local homepage, click on the Webmail link and enter your Username and Password. You can also link to your webmail from the "Webmail" link at the top of this support page.

Why can't I open attachments in Outlook Express?
If you receive an error when trying to open an attachment, or if the attachment is "grayed out" it is likely a security setting in Outlook Express. This feature blocks access to all email attachments that contain a file type that could "potentially" contain a virus. This security feature can easily be disabled to allow access to safe attachments.   Note: having updated antivirus software on your system is extremely important. With current antivirus software, you can safely leave this Outlook Express Security feature disabled.

To disable this Security option:
  • Open Outlook Express and click Tools and down to Options
  • In Options click on the Security tab
  • Uncheck the box that reads "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened which could potentially be a virus"
  • Click Apply and OK to save changes
What can I do about junk email or Spam?
The Postini service is an excellent option for blocking unwanted emails. This option may already be active on your account. You can click on the Postini link at the top of this Support page to log-in to your account, or find information on how to activate your own Postini account.

How do I set up my Internet Connection with your service?

Why do I get disconnected frequently?
One very common cause for frequent disconnects is a setting in Outlook Express email program. To verify this is not causing your disconnects:
  • Open Outlook Express
  • Click TOOLS
  • On the CONNECTIONS tab remove any check mark next to "Hang up after Sending and Receiving
  • Click APPLY and OK to save changes
Another common problem are disconnect options in some versions of Internet Explorer web-browser. To verify all of these settings are correct:
  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click TOOLS --> INTERNET OPTIONS
  • Go to the CONNECTIONS tab
  • Under "Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings" click once to highlight the default connection and click on the SETTINGS button
  • In SETTINGS click on the ADVANCED button in the bottom-right hand corner.
  • Next click to remove any check marks next to "Disconnect if Idle for..." and "Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed"
